The Coastal Cleanup is the only cleanup where trash is collected and recorded. The data cards are then sent to the Ocean Conservancy where the information is used in the development of new environmental protection acts and change the behaviors that cause marine debris in the first place. The data cards are designed to have groups of 4 working together, 3 to collect litter and debris and 1 to record the findings. Latex gloves will be handed out, however some of the marine debris will be rough so please feel free to bring work gloves.
The annual cleanup is organized nationally by The Ocean Conservancy, and is coordinated locally by Keep Lee County Beautiful, Inc. (KLCB) and SCCF.
The 2 goals of the cleanup are to remove unsightly and environmentally harmful debris from Florida’s coastlines and raise awareness about this preventable litter problem. Litter poses a threat to wildlife – plastic bags are mistaken for jellyfish and eaten by sea turtles. Lost and discarded fishing tackle is eaten by birds and becomes an entangling death trap to many types of animal life.

This is the local Fort Myers, Florida event. Main Statewide Tallahassee event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/482670665586588/?ti=icl
What if 10,000 of us stood in solidarity all across the state at the same time, for water?! We did it before, let’s do it again!
Make your voices heard on Saturday, October 20th at 2 pm! Join this peaceful demonstration as we read an open letter to elected officials and political candidates, letting them know that we demand action regarding the current environmental disaster occurring in the gulf.
On August 12th, 2018, Hands Along the Water succeeded in rallying almost 10,000 Floridians throughout the state to stand united in protecting water and marine life. We need your help in Tallahassee and across the state to make an even bigger statement to attract media attention and let politicians know that we will not accept further inaction.
Join us here in Fort Myers at Centennial Park for our local Hands Across the State event.
These local events are happening simultaneously and the leaders will be reading the same open statement that is being read in Tallahassee.
To join this event:
1. RSVP as “Going”
2. Share widely.
Things to remember for this event:
1. No signs or signage of any kind.
2. This is a peaceful event to show solidarity. This is NOT a protest.
3. Please wear a blue shirt to represent healthy water.
4. Please bring reusable water bottles to reduce waste.
We’re excited to see you on Saturday, October 20th!
Main Statewide event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/482670665586588/?ti=icl
See the Statewide Link to find other locations in Florida. They’re also looking for local leaders to volunteers to lead local simultaneous events so those that cannot travel to Tally can participate.

I think it’s time for another boat ride!
Here is the agenda:
-Begin in Cape Coral about one hour before sunset
-Meander through the canals and down the Caloosahatchee River
Cruise out to San Carlos Bay
-Watch playful dolphins and other wildlife native to Southwest Florida
-Listen to the symphony of nature as you experience the breathtaking beauty of Southwest Florida at twilight
-Your captain will teach you about the precious local ecosystem and wildlife as you relax in the salty evening air. Before you return to land, enjoy one of the light refreshments offered on the cruise or bring a small cooler of your own so you can toast the end of another beautiful Florida day in your own unique way.
Cost is $30.00 plus $3.60 taxes/fees
Here is a link to buy your tickets:
https://bananabaytourcompany.com/sunset-dolphin-cruise.html
The cruise starts at 5:30, but please plan on arriving early so we don’t hold up the rest of the passengers!
Also, please note the return policy from the company’s website:
Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded and cannot be rescheduled because your space is being guaranteed at the event.
The activity usually runs in light rain and other moderate weather conditions, but the seller may cancel the activity up to a half hour before the start time in the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions. If the seller cancels the event, ticket-holders will be allowed to reschedule tickets (subject to availability) or receive credit for a future event. Tours may run up to 1 hour past the scheduled return time.
I hope you can join us!
