For the first time in history, the City of Cape Coral will proclaim February 2nd as “Ground-Owl Day.”
Free and open to the public, Cape Coral’s inaugural “Ground-Owl Day” will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Rotary Community Garden located just north of City Hall at the corner of Cultural Park Boulevard and SE 10th Street. Mayor Coviello will issue the official proclamation and the winner of the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife “Name the Owl” contest will be announced. (See below for details.)
In addition, everyone in attendance will be anxious to see whether the “Ground-Owl” will see his shadow, thus signaling 6 more weeks of beautiful “winter weather” in Cape Coral!
Punxsutawney may have “Phil” for their Groundhog Day but Cape Coral is going to have it’s own special “Ground-Owl” Day mascot!
Want to help name the owl? If so, think of some cool names and enter them in the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife “Name the Owl” contest! To enter the contest, please email your owl name ideas to NameThatOwl@gmail.com NO LATER THAN JANUARY 20, 2019 and be sure to include your name and telephone number. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries.
On the evening of Saturday, February 2, plan to join the City’s Special Events team at Jaycee Park (4215 SE 20th Place) for a FREE “Movie in the Park” featuring a special showing of the movie “Hoot” (co-sponsored by the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife) on a large inflatable movie screen.
Food trucks and the Cape Coral Fun-Mobile will be at Jaycee Park starting at 5pm, and rumor has it the Burrowing Owl mascot will be available for photo opps before the movie! Bring your own chairs and blankets. The movie will begin at dusk (~6:30pm).
WHOOOOOO would want to miss all this fun?!?

Enjoy a fun night of camping with your family, under the trees, along the shore of this beautiful riverside park. Bring bikes and scooters and do your own thing or join the organized games. There will be a community campfire after dark for s’mores.
BYO tent, family, food, and camping gear. This is the easiest camping you are ever going to get!
The cost is just $20 per tent; however, limited riverfront sites are available.
Check in between 2-4pm on Saturday and kids activities will begin at 3pm. There are a limited number of “premium” camp sites under the trees along the riverfront available. Once those sites are filled, there will be other spaces available out in the park; however, there are no picnic tables or grills at those sites. Advance registration is required.
Registration deadline is 1/30 or when space is full.
For more information or to RSVP, call Rotary Park at 239-549-4606.
