FSW Theatre Program Presents “The Seagull” @ Florida SouthWestern State College
Nov 10 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

The FSW Theatre Program presents “The Seagull” in the FSW Black Box Theatre, Bldg. L, Room 119b, on Nov. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4422882.

The Seagull, the first of Anton Chekhov’s four major plays, is set at a country estate, where a group of friends and relations have gathered to see the first performance of an experimental play, by the aspiring young writer, Konstantin. Acting in the play is the young and beautiful object of Konstantin’s affection, Nina. In the audience are Konstantin’s femme fatale mother, a celebrated actress, and her lover, the famous novelist Trigorin. The presence of such luminaries not only disrupts the performance, but ultimately the lives of everyone present. Through its exploration of the romantic and artistic conflicts of its four main characters, the play examines the unquenchable human desire to live an extraordinary life and suggests that the line between greatness and mediocrity is perilously thin.

Fort Myers – Clean Water Now, Inc. will host a public viewing of the movie “We The People 2.0” to bring awareness of the Global Rights of Nature Movement and how the Exercise of Your Community Rights will create laws that bestow inalienable rights upon our eco-communities . Giving Nature Rights elevates the law to the highest level of protection that can be afforded to any entity under Western law. The Lee County, Florida initiative is known as “The Caloosahatchee River Bill of Rights” or #CALBOR . Join our elected officials, water advocacy groups, community leaders, educators, and businesses from across the State and the Nation for the dinner and show. Florida, now with seven county initiatives in motion, has become part of a nationwide movement to Exercise our Rights. With guidance of The Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund , Florida will recapture our constitutional right to self-governance to create the laws WE THE PEOPLE know is best for our lives and ecosystems. Voting for The Caloosahatchee Bill Of Rights ensures the River possesses Rights including, but not limited to, the right to naturally exist, flourish, regenerate, and evolve; the right to restoration, recovery, and preservation. Clean Water Now, Inc. is educating Lee County and Florida residents at large of the benefits, complexities, and challenges of The Rights of Nature and the Caloosahatchee Bill of Rights that can be adopted for each locale and the habitat of concern.
Our Guest Panel and the movie “We the People 2.0” will provide an overview of the movement in the United States and abroad to recognize legally enforceable rights for ecosystems. Focus will be on four main areas – (1) the failure of conventional environmental regulatory law to protect the natural environment; (2) the growth and Exercise of “Community Rights” in the U.S. to amend the local laws in over three hundred communities to recognize rights to sustainability; (3) the theoretical and legal basis for the recognition of legally enforceable rights of ecosystems, where those laws have been adopted, and how they are being enforced; and (4) the application of the rights of nature now in seven counties and municipalities in Florida, including an exploration of next steps in Lee County. Daily assaults on our ecosystems are public health and economic disasters in the making. Continued decline of our Florida water quality will result in the loss of billions of dollars of economic activity.
Clean Water Now is thrilled to have as our special guest speakers & panelists the following experts:
• John Cassani – our local Calusa Waterkeeper Alliance expert on the Caloosahatchee River Estuary
• Markie Miller – Ohio: Toledoans for Safe Water Activist for The Lake Erie Bill of Rights #LEBOR
